The following is a very general guide (not
comprehensive) to some of the questions that may need to be considered when
choosing a castor.
DO YOU WANT?
1.
A fixed castor --- Wheel travels in a fixed direction.
2.
A Swivel castor ----- Wheel can rotate on a vertical
axis.
3.
A top plate fitting ---- Flat plate held by four bolts.
4.
A bolthole / stem fitting ----- single centre bolt fitting.
Assuming a trolley with four castors. Take the total
weight of your load plus the trolley and divide the total by three. This is
industry standard practice and leaves you a margin for error. Example total weight 150 Kg divide by three,
castor rating needs to be 50Kg or more.
NB. The running surface and the wheel layouts may both
effect the above rating.
